Travis William Waldemar Kowalchuk

February 12, 1989 – October 10, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Travis.

Travis was born in Drumheller, lived in Rumsey with his parents and sister until the age of two when the family moved to the family farm near Munson, Alberta.

Travis was a busy little boy with energy to spare. He was kind, caring and wore his heart on his sleeve.  He attended Morrin School from kindergarten to grade 12. He was in 4H and excelled in public speaking. Power skating turned into playing hockey. He loved to play hockey in both Morrin and then to Drumheller where he developed a friend group that lasted his lifetime. In the off season, it was baseball and all school sports. Dirt biking was also a favourite pass time.

In High School, he entered the RAP (Registered Apprenticeship Program) in partnership with Starland County where he developed his Heavy Duty Technician skills. At the age of 22 received his Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification. He competed in the Trade Skills Competition and gave the keynote address at the Trade Skills Graduation in Calgary to over 300 graduates and their families. He was very proud of his trade. From Starland County, he entered the oil field business where his trouble shooting and attention to detail made him a sought-after technician in his field. His trade took him to Fort St. John B.C. where he worked in the oil field and honed his skills.

The disease of addiction hijacked his brain and slowly destroyed everything important to Travis. It took away his ability to live a good life, one that he wanted so badly. But it never took away his kind, caring heart and the memories he cherished with his family and dear friends. Remember the boy, the young man that brought light into every room he entered with his energy, vibrant personality and kind soul.

Travis was predeceased by his grandparents,: Bill and Jeanette Kowalchuk, Waldemar and Sally Wolf, cousin Brent Kenzler, Uncle Brian MacDermid, and friends too numerous to mention from the same disease that took his life.

Travis leaves to mourn: daughter Theresa Kenzler, his parents, Bill and Becky Kowalchuk, Sister Lindsey Nemeth (Seth), her sons Archer and Beau; brother Jared Kowalchuk (Angela). Numerous Uncles, Aunts and cousins who loved him dearly. The friends he leaves behind were extremely special to him, every one of you had a place in his heart.

There will be a celebration of life for Travis on October 24, 2026  2:00 at the Midland Community Hall. 2011 1 Ave NW, Drumheller Alberta. Donations in Travis’s honour can be made to the Calgary Dream Centre or the charity of your choice.

In a world of troubled hearts be kind.
