Our Story

Courtney-Winters Funeral Home has served the Drumheller community since 1910, and our commitment to you continues today. We are the only full service funeral home in the Drumheller Valley, dedicated to serving our home town with the utmost care, respect and compassion.

Many families will remember us as Winter’s Funeral Home, and later Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Chapel. Maurice Thevenaz bought what was then Winter’s Funeral Home in 1981 and managed and directed it until 1994; today he is back with our Care Team. Lisa Jacques first came through our doors as a grade 10 work-experience student, and Sean Paul Grande, born in Drumheller, apprenticed here from 2002 under his friend and mentor Gus Hamilton before becoming a partner in 2008.

Today Courtney-Winters is a division of The Caring Group, a family of locally rooted funeral homes in Alberta. That gives us the backing of a larger organization, but the funeral home is still run here, by people who live here.

Managing Funeral Director Scott Kuntz and our Care Team are compassionate, respectful and understanding, and we are here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is our honour to be of service.
