Remembering Kenneth Gordon Meller
January 30, 1942 ~ April 17, 2012 As I sit trying to let the muse move me to write an obituary for a "Great" man, an epiphany has struck. The Eulogy is a Readers Digest summation of 70 years, which means that the obituary that I'm attempting is the equivalent of a "Word Find." So what would be the words that will make the reader say "That was Ken exactly!"? Then I realize that words will never do.
Lyrics are what is required: three part harmony with a mandolin and guitar accompaniment.Lyrics about the love of his life Diana, his bride of 43 years, and the love he held for sons J.B., Mike and Scott. A cheerful chorus about his granddaughters Marina, Jasmine, Kaitlyn,Lindsay and Alexandra, with an extra refrain for his new great-granddaughter Destiny.
Ken's life is a soundtrack as befits the musician he was: poignant in spots with the losses of both his parents Ralph and Myrtle and his oldest son JB.
Joyful music was added with each addition to his living legacy: early verses for brother Gerald and sister Elaine, riffs and refrains for each extended family member and friend. As I close my eyes and listen to the song of Ken, I discovered it comes from my heart. Ken snuck his song into my heart so I could have him with me always. If you listen closely you will discover he put his song into your heart too.
