Remembering George Hein
May 15, 1924 ~ February 7, 2012 HEIN, George Joseph of Drumheller, formerly from Hussar, passed away peacefully on Feb. 7, 2012 in Drumheller surrounded by his loving family at the age of 87 years.He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 65 years, Ella; two sons, Larry (Debbie) of Dawson Creek, B.C.; Gerald (Ron) of Calgary and four daughters, Arlene (Robert) Filkohazy of Hussar; Fay (Doug) Bangle of Drayton Valley;Debbie (Glenn) Laycock of Rosebud and Valerie (Maurice) Thevenaz of Drumheller.Thirteen grandchildren; Carey (Kevin) Taubert, Robin (Troy) Middleton, Kelly (Marsha) Hein, Brett (Jody) Filkohazy, Sonya (Scott) Elias, Heather (Ryan) Crook, Jasey (Jenna) Hein, Ryan Bangle, Tyler, Kyle and Mark Laycock,Lindsey and Kendra Thevenaz, thirteen great-grandchildren, four sister-in-laws, numerous nephews and nieces and special nephew Randy (Dorrie) Hein.George was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Hattie Hein, brothers Charile, Ralph, Harold (Sam) and Perry.
George was born in Bassano, May 15, 1924 and spent most of his life farming in the Duck Lake area.George and his family were actively involved in the 4H program. He was one of the first ranchers to introduce Charolais cattle to the area and was a lifetime member of the Canadian Charolais Association. George was a 50 year member of the ELKS and a Lifetime Member of the Hussar Curling Club. He loved to spend time hunting and fishing with his long time friends. George will always be remembered for his fun loving wit, a good practical joke and always having a good time. And remember George, just like you taught your grandsons when out checking the cattle, 'never pee into the wind'!!
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Hussar Community Hall. Interment took place at the Bassano Cemetery on Sunday for family members.
