Wayne Ouellette Obituary

Wayne Daniel Ouellette (Oly)

July 12, 1958 – January 20, 2026

Wayne Daniel Ouellette, Age 67 of Starland County passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026 at home.

Born on July 12, 1958 in Kenora, Ontario to Lawson and Ethel Ouellette.  Wayne grew up in Calgary, AB where he started his long-time career with the City of Calgary Electric System/Enmax where he worked for 37 years before retiring in 2013.

For the past 49 years Wayne (Oly) was a devoted husband to Sue.  Together they raised two children, Tracy Callahan (James) and Scott Ouellete (Amy).  He was a proud grandfather of his 2 grandchildren Madison Rutley and Braden Callahan.  He grew up with a love of hockey, playing proudly with his community teams and into his adulthood.  He also found a passion for other sports in his young adult years such as fastball, curling and bowling.  In his later years he found his greatest passion, the sport of golf, where he dedicated many years becoming a very skilled and avid golfer.

Oly was a dedicated family man and took an active role in ensuring his family was supported in all their endeavours. He was a coach, mentor, and the biggest cheerleader in the stands.  He impacted the lives of so many with his big smile, infections laugh and being the man anyone could count on for anything.

After having the privilege to retire in 2013 with his wife Sue, they enjoyed many years spending winters in Arizona and summers in Alberta, so he could enjoy his passion for golf year-round. In 2019, Sue was diagnosed with a rare condition that left her needing consistent care.  Oly didn’t even question this task and became Sue’s primary care giver with that same smile and laugh and never a complaint.  He truly loved Sue unconditionally.

Oly was predeceased by both parents as well as his older brother Neil. He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren, his sister Linda Hargreaves (Ian), niece Jacey Pumphrey (Evan and baby Mayzie).

As per Oly’s wishes there will be no formal service and a Celebration of Life will be held May 2, 2026 at Jurassic Bark Pet Resort in Starland County, AB.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
