Shielia Vonnitte Courtney

Shielia Vonnitte Courtney passed away on May 30, 2023 at the Drumheller Health Centre at the age of 83 years.

Shielia was born March 7, 1940, in Oliver, B.C. and lived in the Okanagan area until 1978 when she moved to Delia, Alberta.  In 1980 she married Fred Courtney and settled in the Handhills with her boys.

Shielia enjoyed watching new life whether it was calving or gardening.  She spent many hours creating her yard into a beautiful escape for family, friends, and hummingbirds.  She taught 4-H sewing for many years as her sewing was at a professional level.  She took an interest in her boys’ lives and would tailor custom fit clothing appropriate to their tasks from western shirts to welding beanies.  Her penmanship paralleled calligraphy and took a trained eye to read.  Her artistic talent was as refined as her penmanship.  Shielia’s sharp wit was matched by her creative and colourful vocabulary.  She will be missed by her loving family.

Shielia leaves to mourn her husband, Fred, her sons, Dan, Greg, Ken, Morgan and their families, her stepchildren, Jerry, Shelley, Vanda and their families and a lifetime of friends.

She was predeceased by her son Robert in 2010.

There will be a Celebration of Life held for Shielia at the Delia Drop In Centre, Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 2:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Delia Helping Hands Home Support Services, Box 120, Delia, Alberta, T0J 0W0.
