Sharon "Sheri" Martynes Obituary

Sharon “Sheri” Dianne Martynes

April 9, 1943 ❖ February 28, 2026

A Life Lovingly Lived

Sheri Martynes was born on April 9, 1943, in Wells, British Columbia, and spent her early years in Comox, BC. On February 23, 1968, she married the love of her life, Bill Martynes. Together they settled in Delburne, Alberta, before putting down lasting roots in Drumheller in 1981. Sheri enjoyed her work as a dental assistant and later in hospital housekeeping, always finding a way to connect with everyone she met.

Her greatest joys were found at home, tending to her garden on the farm, watching the hummingbirds and feeding her squirrels. She loved curling while she was in Delburne and built friendships that lasted a lifetime. Her summers were regularly spent on the deck drinking sangrias, tending the flowers Brenda helped plant for her each year and Sunday family dinners. She loved her movies nights with her grandkids Abbey, Harrison, Winstons and Aaliyah – watching the movies the kids weren’t allowed to watch at home. Later followed by the weekly tech call to sort out the TV, iPad, or phone with Gerald or maybe that was just to visit.

Sheri and her daughter Angela called each other daily, sharing their updates from New Zealand and Canada. She treasured her visit to New Zealand having the chance to explore the country her daughter calls home, visiting with Angela’s husband and having some drinks at Hobbiton with her grandson William. She loved the peacefulness of sitting by the ocean and watching the waves. In 2017, Sheri was baptized at her church with Gerald by her side for the dunk. Her Bible study group and her faith in Jesus were the quiet anchors of her days.

❖ Scripture ❖

Psalm 23:1–4

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

John 14:1–2

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?”
