Mr. Saverio (Sam) Grande passed away at the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital on June 10, 2025, at the age of 84 years.

Sam was born on February 28, 1941, in the village of Amato, Catanzaro (Calabria Region), Italy. In November 1952, he, his mother Concetta (Connie) and his brother Serafino joined his father Pasquale (Charlie) in Alberta, Canada.

Sam fully embraced his new Canadian life and excelled in his studies—going on to graduate from the University of Alberta to become a teacher, sharing that knowledge and zest for life with so many students, over decades.

Sam was curious, playful, generous, tenacious, and so very robust—hiking up mountains and biking around Banff, France too—right into his eighties.  

He had a penchant for poetry and prose, camping, big Italian lunches with family and his warm and welcoming smile will glow in the hearts of so many.

Sam is survived by his loving family: wife Doreen, son Michael (KB), daughter Juanita (Pascal), only grandchild/his grandson Cooper, brother Serafino (Debbie), one nephew Sean and two nieces Lisa & Susan and their families.

Prayer Vigil will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 7:00 P.M. at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church.  Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church.  Interment will follow at the Drumheller Cemetery, the family invites everyone to join them.  Luncheon will be served at the St. Anthony’s Church Hall following the service of committal. If friends so desire memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, 151, 3rd Street West, Drumheller, Alberta, T0J 0Y4

Rest in peace and play, as we all wave goodbye to you—for now.
