Obituary

Robert Ernest Channell

March 17, 1944 ~ January 25, 2022

It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather Robert Ernest Channell at the Drumheller Health Centre on January 25, 2022 at the age of 77 years.

Robert was born on March 17, 1944 in Sherbrooke, Quebec to Hector and Wilma Channell.  He took his schooling in both primary and secondary education in the Sherbrooke/Stanstead area.  He became an electrician first employed with Butterfield, later a Foreman with Scott Paper.

Robert married Sonya Smith on July 16, 1966 in Stanstead, Quebec.  The couple had two children Trevor and Amber.

Robert and Sonya moved from Quebec in 1997, they spent eight years in Ontario, and the last 17 years in the Drumheller Valley. Robert enjoyed travelling, driving, camping and playing darts.  He was a member of the A.N A.F. and the Legion where he volunteered in many capacities.  Robert loved animals and was often seen with a few cats on his lap.   Robert was a kind, gentle soul who was liked by all who encountered him.  He will be sadly missed by his loving family and a lifetime of friends.

Robert was predeceased by his parents Hector and Wilma.

Those left behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife Sonya, son Trevor, daughter Amber (Mark Olbrich), two grandchildren Carmanah Olbrich and Cadence Olbrich, sister Faye (Art Jepsen), brother Peter (Geneve), and numerous nieces, nephews and a lifetime of friends.

There will be no formal funeral service for Robert.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Drumheller District Humane Society or S.T.A.R.S.

Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Homes are in care of the arrangements.
