Richard Bell Obituary

Richard (Rick) Roy Clark Bell was born in Viking, AB on August 23, 1943 and passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, AB on August 10, 2022.

Born to Winnie and Roy Bell in Viking, AB he was the eldest of 3 siblings, sister Ina & brother Harry.

Rick was a hard worker right from the age of 9 at the local mercantile, Cash Store in Viking. Rick spent his youth palling around with his lifelong friends Rick Comisarow, Gary & Lawrence Selzler.

One spring evening in 1958, Rick set out for a blind date to take a local girl, Joyce Caroll Nesbitt to the prom. This was the start of a beautiful life shared together for over 62 years. Rick and Joyce married on July 3, 1965. They set off to Edmonton to both pursue their dreams of becoming teachers. Rick accepted his first teaching position in Holden, Alberta. In 1971 they relocated to Drumheller where they would welcome their two boys, Michael Dean and Christopher Lee. Rick taught at the Central Elementary School until 1996 and was the Vice Principal when he retired.

Rick spent his retirement enjoying many winters away in Mesa, Arizona where he swam daily and found a love of pickleball. He also enjoyed his weekly motorbike trips with his biking group. Rick was always sure to make it home for Christmas every year. Especially once his prized possessions came into his life, his Grandchildren. Grandpa would sit for hours doing puzzles, playing checkers or working in the garage with his grandchildren.

Rick will be remembered for the quiet, thoughtful man that he was. He was a patient and loving man who was a steady constant in all of our lives.

Rick’s memory and love will live on in his wife Joyce and his two boys, Mike (Courtney), Chris (Andrea) and Grandchildren Harper, Emersyn, Hudson and Warner.

Please join us in remembering Rick at the Knox United Church on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 2:00 P.M., luncheon to follow in the Knox United Church Hall.
