Leslie “Les” Raymond Rasmuson
December 17, 1951 ~ May 1, 2025
Les passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, at the age of 73 in Drumheller, Alberta surrounded by his loving family.
Les was born in Brooks, Alberta on December 17, 1951, he lived a life marked by resilience, dedication and compassion. Les began his professional journey as a petroleum mud engineer, a demanding career that took him far away from home. However, his deep-rooted love for the land and desire to be closer to home led him to make significant life changes. For over two dedicated, Les served as a farm Forman at a large local farm, where he found fulfillment working the land and contributing to the agricultural community.
For the past 23 years, Les shared his life with his beloved partner Gussie-affectionately known as Shorty. Les is also lovingly remembered by his children, Jeffrey, Brian and Maretta; stepchildren Travis, Teresa and Tara; sister Beverley and brother Larry.
Les is predeceased by his parents Raymond and stepmother May and mother Mary and his cherished sisters Ruth and Karen.
A man of remarkable strength and generosity, he dedicated much of his life to helping others. As an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 25 years, he played an instrumental role in guiding many individuals toward sobriety. Even in his last years, Les continued to counsel members with unwavering commitment and empathy. His sense of civic duty extended beyond personal mentorship. Les was an active member of the local Citizens on Patrol in Drumheller. Les and his partner Gary spent countless evenings helping ensure the safety of their community.
In his earlier years, Les was a talented hockey player with aspirations to reach professional heights. Tragically those dreams were cut short when he suffered severe burns in a fire. Despite this life altering event Les’s spirit remained unbroken.
In recent years, Les faced another formidable challenge. His strength during this time left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
His legacy will live on through the lives he touched. May his memory bring comfort to all of those who knew him.
There will be no formal funeral service for Les. May he rest in peace.
