Larry John Burfield

It is with deep sadness that the family of Larry Burfield announce his passing on May 18, 2026, at the age of 82. 

Larry was born in September of 1943 to Peter and Bessie Burfield.  He spent his youth farming with his dad and attending school with neighbours who would become lifelong friends.  Larry spent most of his working years with Gulf, which later became Conoco Phillips.  Following his retirement, he moved to Kelowna, where he spent the next 14 years.  In 2022, Larry made the decision to return to Alberta to be closer to his family.

To know Larry was to know that he was immensely proud to be born and raised in Munson. He had stories to tell about every nearby family and farm. Larry spent several years with the Munson Fire Department, serving as both Deputy Chief and Chief, and he couldn’t have been happier when his boys both followed in his footsteps and joined the department in 2010.

The highlights of Larry’s life were his boys, Kevin and Mike, and his grandchildren: Aaron, Austin, Morgan, Ryan, and Maggie. He made sure his boys had a childhood filled with camping trips, waterskiing, and skidooing, and he loved watching his grandkids do the same. "Granddad" was always so proud to hear about every hockey game, Lego build, or figure skating carnival, and loved to be in the stands as a spectator whenever he could.

Larry was predeceased by his beloved parents, Peter and Bessie; infant siblings Terry and Sheila; sister Linda, and brother-in-law Leonard.  His memory will live on forever in the hearts of his children: Kevin (Christine) and children, Aaron, Austin and Morgan; Michael (Regan) and children, Ryan and Maggie; mother of his children, Nina; his special companion, Betty Carr; and his many extended family members. 

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 31st, 2026 at 1 pm at the Munson Hall.  All who knew Larry are invited to attend.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Munson Fire Department in honour of Larry’s service.
