Kay Clark

Kay Clark - February 10, 1938 - April 6, 2025

It is with profound sadness that the family of Kay Clark announces her passing at the Drumheller Health Centre on April 6, 2025 with her family by her side.

Kay was born in Stettler, Alberta on February 10, 1938, to Ted and Reta Annable. She was the third of four daughters. She married Gary Strause in 1956 and had two daughters, Kathy and Susan.

Her career began in 1966 at the Drumheller Institution when it first opened its doors. In 1976 she joined the staff at the Drumheller Canada Employment Centre as an employment counsellor. In January of 1981 she was promoted to Branch Manager, making her the first female manager in the Alberta and Northwest Territory Region. She had a fulfilling career of 27 years.

After Gary's untimely passing in 1990, she went on to marry Mervin Clark and they had a loving marriage of 28 years.

Kay will be fondly remembered for her witty sense of humor, her exemplary baking and cooking skills, her love of reading, and her fierce love and dedication to her family. She spent her later years enjoying grandchildren’s sporting events, Christmas concerts, dance recitals and hosting family dinners.

Kay was predeceased by her father Ted Annable, Mother Reta Sorenson, sister June Rouse, nephew Douglas Rouse, husband Gary Strause, and second husband Mervin Clark.

She is lovingly survived by her daughters Kathy Dekeyser (Dan Gowalko) and Susan Pollom (Allan), grandchildren Riley Pollom (Tracy), Jessica Voynovich (Curtis), Devan Dekeyser (Allyson) and Anna Doornbos (Ryan), great grandchildren Cameron, Jace, Ella, Abby, Stevie, Nash, Oliver, and Hallie, sisters Lee Kroeger and Patricia Raddis, as well as numerous extended family and friends including Derek Dekeyser and Kim Clozza, Barb and Bob Neigum, and the entire Clark family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 17th at 2pm at the Badlands Community Facility with a luncheon to follow.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Blackburn and all the supporting staff at the Drumheller hospital for their kindness, support and care provided to Kay during her stay. Considering their efforts, we would encourage that any memorial donations be made to the Drumheller Area Health Foundation.
