Karen Holt Obituary

Karen Maxine (Polych) Holt September 3, 1951- January 9, 2026

Karen Holt passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026 at Drumheller Continuing Care where she had been a resident for many enjoyable years.

She loved to play bingo, do puzzles, paint and make bead jewelry to pass her time away and the Recreation Department staff kept her fully occupied with the activities she liked to do. She also enjoyed taking part in the many other fun events that are provided to the residents during the year.

The Continuing Care and Recreation Department staff were very good to Karen throughout her long stay and always took the time and effort involved to see she was comfortable and well looked after.

Karen is survived by sons, Lorry and Robin Horvath; sister, Sheila Paullus (Chad and Tenille); sister-in-law, Bonnie Polych (Melody and Brent); niece, Michelle Bascom (Mike, Phoenyx and Falkon); nephew, Mitchell Cormack (Anna, Shandi and Anastasia) and brother-in-law, Gordon Molyneux.

Karen was predeceased by her husband, Francis Holt; mother and father, Ruby and Walter Polych; grandparents, Phyllis and Percy Whitford; brother, Allen Polych; sister, Sherry Polych; nephew, Steven Cormack; brother-in-law, Rick Paullus; and first husband, Ron Horvath.

There will be no formal funeral service. Karen's remains will be placed in the plot with her mother, Ruby, in the Drumheller Cemetery.

Karen's family would like to express sincere thanks to Dr. Chetty, Dr. Graham and all the staff at Continuing Care and the Recreation Department for the wonderful care Karen received over the years. Also, a big thank you to Joan from Helping Hands who visited with Karen and made her days more enjoyable by reading to her, doing puzzles and other fun things.

As well a big thank you to the various volunteers, you know who you are, who sat with Karen during her past and present illness. Your acts of kindness are much appreciated.

Flowers are graciously declined and donations (if desired) may be made to the Drumheller Humane Society or the Recreation Department c/o the Drumheller Health Centre.
