John “Bruce” Urbinsky

1947 ~2025

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John “Bruce” Urbinsky on January 31, 2025, at the age of 77 years.  He passed away peacefully at Red Deer Hospice after visiting with his family, watching an Oilers game while drinking a coke and cracking jokes.

Bruce was known in many different roles.

Husband: Bruce was a loving partner to Nancy (nee Wattenbarger) of 55 years.  They were married in 1969 in Drumheller, Alberta where they call home.

Father: of Sheri-ann (Dennis Barrie) of Penhold, AB, Bryan (Melissa) of Red Deer, AB.

Grandpa: of Dustin, Abigail (Barrie), Brittany (Dan Taylor), Makayla, Savannah, Rylan (Urbinsky).

Great Grandpa: of Allexis, Danielle, Link (Barrie), Charlie, Fiona (Taylor).

Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, & Friend: Bruce was born February 9, 1947, in Edmonton, Alberta.  He was the oldest of 7 children.  Surviving siblings; Glen (Sandy), Danny (Linda), Laurie (Gerry Bunch), Dolores (Periche), and sister-in-law Marilyn Wattenbarger.

Bruce was predeceased by his dad John, mom Pauline, twin sisters Donna (Carl Zigler), Doris (Lorne Parkyn), father-in-law Virgel (Wattenbarger), mother-in-law Mattie (Wattenbarger), brothers-in-law Larry (Wattenbarger), Louis (Wattenbarger), Melvin (Wattenbarger), Elmer (Jensen), sister-in-laws Ilene (Jensen) and Eileen (Wattenbarger).

Bruce was an uncle, cousin, and a friend to many including his dog Tilley.  He was the best of the best and will be greatly missed.  “The Good Lord made an Angel Today”.

There will be a Graveside service at the Morrin Cemetery, Morrin, Alberta on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 11:00 A.M.  A Celebration of Bruce’s Life will follow at the Badlands Community Facility (80 Veterans Way, Drumheller, AB) Monday, February 10, 2025, at 1:00 P.M., there will be a time of fellowship and lunch to follow.  Bring your stories!
