Joanne Hodgson Obituary

Joanne May Hodgson, age 58, passed away on March 24, 2020 in the Drumheller Hospital with her family by her side. Joanne was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer on January 5th, 2020 and fought every day with a positive attitude, courage and strength. She found strength in her family, friends and especially her husband Jim who stood by her side every day. Her husband and children could not be more proud of the strength she showed during this difficult time.


Joanne was born on February 19th, 1962 in Drumheller, Alberta to Sharon Lynn Eskeland and Edward Raymond Eskeland. She grew up just west of Drumheller on Ed and Sharon's farm and was the first born of four children, including John, Jason and Jim Eskeland. Shortly after graduating high school, she met the love of her life, Jim Gordon Hodgson and the two were married in June of 1982. Joanne and Jim's children followed shortly thereafter, including son Eric James Hodgson born in June of 1987, son Coleman John Hodgson born in August of 1988 and daughter Christina (Chrissy) May Gibson in May of 1990.

 

Joanne was an incredibly hardworking individual, starting in an administrative role at the Drumheller Fountain Tire in 1995. Joanne was the first woman in Fountain Tire's history to be promoted to Assistant General Manager before taking ownership and sole Management of the shop in 2012. Joanne recently received her 25year service award and beamed with pride. Joanne was very passionate about serving the Drumheller area community and developed deep friendships with many of her customers. Fountain Tire was truly her second home and family.

 

Joanne most enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren in all of their sporting/extracurricular activities. This included many long road trips for Eric, Coleman and Christina's hockey to various parts of the world. Most recently, Joanne's greatest joy came in the form of her six grandchildren who each became significant parts of her life. Outside of work, Jim and Joanne would be found spending most of their time with their grandchildren.

 

Joanne is survived by her husband Jim, son Eric (Amber), son Coleman (Netania) and daughter Chrissy (John). She is also survived by six grandchildren including Kaynen and Brielle (Eric and Amber), Trace and Ryden (Coleman and Netania) and Brooklyn and Benjamin (Chrissy and John).

 

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family is planning a small private service at this time with a public memorial at a later date. Joanne was very passionate in supporting local, In lieu of flowers, we ask you to please consider supporting a local charity, business, organization – or – The Canadian Cancer Society.
