Jean (Marjorie) Tchir Obituary

In Loving Memory of Jean (Marjorie) Phyllis Tchir

June 23, 1935 - July 20, 2026

With heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jean (Marjorie) Phyllis Tchir on July 20, 2026 at the age of 91.

Jean was born on June 23, 1935, in Thorsby, Alberta to Stanley and Eva Kupka.  She was raised on the family farm with her brothers, where she developed the strong work ethic and love of family that remained with her throughout her life.

On August 20, 1955, Jean married William (Bill) Tchir.  Together they raised their three sons, Ken, Larry, and Don. Bill's work in the oil patch took the family to High Level and Swan Hills before they settled in Drumheller in 1970, where they made North Drum their lifelong home.

Jean and Bill shared a passion for gardening, creating a beautiful yard filled with flowers, apple and apricot trees, and a thriving garden.  They also enjoyed many happed years camping and fishing together.

Jean is lovingly remembered by her son Ken and Kellie Tchir, her son Don and Sherry Tchir, her former daughter in law Lois Thatcher, her grandchildren Jody (Michael) Tchir, Kristy (Rob) Purcell, Nigel (Skye) Tchir, Kayla (Trevor) Scott, Alanna (Kirk) Greene, Roland Manning, Nathan Manning and Spencer Tchir; and her 18 cherished great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bill; her son Larry Tchir, her daughter in law Wendy Tchir, and her grandson Brandon Tchir.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to the caring staff and residents of Hillview Lodge, where Jean spent the past two and a half years.  She thoroughly enjoyed participating in the daily activities and appreciated the kindness, compassion, and friendship she found there.

Jean will be remembered for her strength, determination, love of gardening, and devotion to her family.  We will miss her strong Ukrainian personality, by even more, we will miss her warm and loving heart.  She will be forever loved, deeply missed, and lovingly remembered.

In keeping with Jean's wishes, there will be no funeral or celebration of life.
