James "Joe" Conroy Obituary

James (Joe) Joseph Conroy

March 11, 1961 – January 26, 2026

Joe passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026, with loved ones by his side.

Born in Drumheller, Alberta, on March 11, 1961, Joe was the youngest of seven children born to Gladys Irene Conroy.

Joe attended St. Anthony’s School from kindergarten through junior high, then went on to

Drumheller Composite High School, where he met his soon-to-be wife and the mother of his children, Terry Kay Samel.

His children became his world. Joe raised them independently, with the loving support of their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and Joe’s closest friends—Kirk, Fred, Tim, and Terry, to name a few.

Joe dedicated more than 40 years of service to the Drumheller Co-op. A true jack of all trades, he spent time working in every department, eventually reaching a managerial role. His dedication and work ethic earned him the honour of Employee of the Year on multiple

occasions.

It was no surprise that Joe would also find love at the Co-op. There, he met his co-worker,

Candy Tompkin, with whom he built a beautiful life. We take comfort in knowing they are now together again, watching over all of us.

Joe is lovingly remembered by his children:

● Tanya Conroy of Elkford, BC

● Jamie Conroy (Chris) of Stettler, AB

● Joey Conroy (Serena) of Irricana, AB

Stepchildren:

● Amber Walker (Mark) of Red Deer, AB

● Cody Halverson of Red Deer, AB

Great-grandchildren: Mason and River

Sisters:

● Maryanne Pugh (Norman) of Drumheller, AB

● Paul Huculak of Drumheller, AB

As well as many loving nieces and nephews.

● Sisters Rose Roes and Elizabeth Huculak
