Surrounded by family, James Alfred Oster passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026 at the age of 73 leaving behind a life filled with love.
Jim found his greatest happiness in being with his family, who now mourn his passing. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Sharon Oster; his son Michael Oster (Roxane); his daughter Laura Smith (Russell); his four cherished grandchildren, Blake, Ella, Andrea and Adam; his brother Gerald (Jan); his niece Cindy (Lee); his aunt Shirley Dorin; and many cousins and friends.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Ben and Fern Oster; his father and mother-in-law, Dave and Iris Morgan; and his nephew, Scott Oster.
The family farm and the life Jim built there were a deep source of pride for him. After retiring from farming due to heath reasons in 2000, Jim explored a variety of interests. These included working for DOW AgroSciences, buying and selling grain in Bassano and serving as a commissionaire at the Drumheller Penitentiary, before fully embracing retired life in Drumheller in 2017.
Above all, Jim treasured time spent with those he loved. His greatest joy was being a Grandpa/Papa, and he deeply valued the companionship of friends close by.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Jim on February 3, 2026 at 2PM at the Hussar Community Hall. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Drumheller and Area Health Foundation - “Palliative Care” or the Drumheller District Humane Society.
Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Homes are in care of the arrangements.
