It is with deep sadness that the family of Glen Hansen announces his passing at the age of 95 on December 21, 2025
Glen was born and raised in Drumheller, a town he proudly called home for his entire life. He was a familiar and respected presence to generations of residents, known for his friendly manner, boisterous laugh, strong work ethic, and genuine willingness to help others.
Glen met the love of his life, Shirley, and together they built a life rich in family, friendships, travel, and dogs. They shared countless adventures traveling across the country in their motorhomes. After Shirley’s passing in 2015, Glen embraced a new chapter—learning to cook and surrounding himself with his many good friends. His loyal furry companion, Mickey, went everywhere with him, and the two were inseparable best buddies until Mickey passed away a year before Glen.
From a young age, Glen demonstrated a deep dedication to hard work and community. He apprenticed with Westergard Motors and earned his Mechanic’s Licence in 1954. He later owned and operated Valley Esso for 20 years, becoming a trusted and well-known name in the community. Even after retiring, Glen was never one to sit still—selling cars with Sunrise Auto and later servicing oil pumps well into his 80s. His life was rooted in integrity, perseverance, and a sincere care for those around him.
Glen was predeceased by his devoted wife Shirley Hansen, beloved daughter Lori Hansen, great-grandchild Darcy Vescarelli, and seven siblings: Laura, Bud, Joan, Marie, Earl, Elsie, and Nora.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Sherry (Lorne) Newman and Judy (Jordan) Mills; five grandchildren Jamie (Ben) McCord, Terry Graham (Crystal), Logan Graham, Lainey Vescarelli, and Darrell Vescarelli; three great-grandchildren Maya, Maddison, and Mercedes Graham; and one great-great-grandchild, Chiara Vescarelli. Glen is also survived by his sister Vera Lacey, along with many nieces and nephews.
Glen will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on in the town he loved and the many lives he touched.
A Celebration of Glen’s Life—fondly called Happy Hour—will be held on January 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Badlands Community Centre. All who knew Glen are encouraged to attend and share memories.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Drumheller Health Centre (Acute Care) and Ponoka Centennial Care Centre for the compassionate care shown to Glen and his family.
