Gisele (Gigi) Paquerette Dompnier
Gigi Dompnier of Drumheller, beloved wife of her late husband, Guy Dompnier, passed away after a lengthy illness on January 29, 2025 at the age of 88 years. She is now finally at peace.
Gigi was born on April 6, 1936 and is from Chicoutimi, Quebec. She grew up in a family with 6 siblings, all of whom are now deceased. As a child, she attended a boarding school and will always say that she was raised by nuns proudly recalling how she gave them “a run for their money”! After high school, she went to the University of Ottawa and graduated as a Registered Nurse. She then moved to High Prairie, Alberta to work as a nurse and that is where she met her husband, Guy. French was her first language, and Guy taught her English as they began their long and happy life together in Alberta.
The family moved around often (High Prairie, Evansburg, Spirit River, and then on to Drumheller) with Guy’s occupation working for the Alberta Government.
Gigi and Guy had 4 children: Marc (deceased), Lise (Giaco Bertamini), Nicole and Frank (Pamela). Nana’s greatest joy was her grandchildren: Philip (Natalie), Julia (Daniel), Giacomo, Ryan, Amy and Hannah as well as her great grandchildren: Davin, Brooklyn, Adelyn, Henry and Hazel. Gigi also has numerous nieces and nephews back home in Quebec.
Guy and Gigi shared a passion for travel, exploring Canada and the United States to give their children the opportunity to experience new adventures across North America. Traveling by car and train, they created memories that their children still cherish and recount to this day. They would spend their entire summers camping and fishing and after Guy retired, they would spend their winters in California.
Gigi was very active and energetic often walking up to seven miles a day and working outdoors in their garden. She was an excellent cook and baker and had a passion for watching sports particularly tennis, baseball and especially hockey as she was one of a few females to play in her youth. She was also very artistic and crafty sharing her talents through painting, knitting, and crocheting beautiful things for her family & friends.
She will be deeply missed, but her spirit and the memories she created will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew her. As she would say “Salut mes amis” (Goodbye my friends)!
