Elaine "Arla" Nelson

Elaine “Arla” Nelson of Drumheller beloved wife of the late Ray Nelson passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at the Continuing Care in Drumheller at the age of 90.

Arla was born July 19th, 1935, to Roy and Gladys Thomson.  Went to school grade 1-8 at Lake McKee, in grade 9 in Rowley, and grade 10 in Drumheller, then she married.

Arla married Ray Nelson in June 1952, and they raised 8 children, 3 girls and 5 boys.  Arla was active in the community with Valley Bus, Meals on Wheels and the Royal Purple of which she became “Honored Royal Lady”.  She very much enjoyed going to conventions for the Royal Purple.  Arla worked at various jobs over the years to help the family out.  She always loved to visit with her family, which became quite extended over time, with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.  Arla and Ray loved to go camping extensively throughout Alberta, B.C. and up to Alaska.

Arla will be missed dearly by her loving family.

Arla was predeceased by her loving husband Ray, sons Peter, Scott, grandchildren Alyssa, Sheldon, Debbie, sisters Marion, Everna, brothers Norris and Manley.

Arla is survived by daughters Teresa (David) Ponath, Karen Sieppert, Janie (Dale) Kelly, sons Jim, Bill (Linda), Chris, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, sister Norlene, and brother Orman.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at Knox United Church, 195-3rd Avenue East, Drumheller with Reverend Rachel Nadon officiating, there will be a luncheon to follow.
