Douglas Lee Anderson of Sunnynook, Alberta husband of Gail Anderson passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on January 29, 2024, in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 80 years.

Doug was born in Calgary on November 2, 1943, he was raised on a cattle ranch/farm in the Sunnynook area, where he farmed and ranched right up until he passed away.  He received his schooling at Lone Butte, McKay, and Hanna High School.  On June 21, 1969, he married Gail Thomas. Doug was an avid collector of cars, trucks, guns, and military memorabilia.  He attended many car shows and obtained his 60 ‘Meteor Convertible at Dog River, Saskatchewan. Doug was a member of the Hanna Rod and Gun Club, Flatland Firearms Gun Club where he was instrumental in establishing the Southern Alberta Full Auto Shoot to the Warlow Gun Range.  Doug was passionate about politics, both American and Canadian.  He belonged to the N.R.A. and the N.F.A. and worked tirelessly protesting the Federal gun Laws on behalf of Alberta gun owners.  He was a regular presence and participant at the bud Haynes Gun Auction with his buddies Mac McDonald, Travis Dunlop, Curt Hardy, and sons.  He loved farm auctions and attended them all over Western Canada.

Doug leaves to mourn his passing his wife Gail, one daughter Laura Deuchar, three sons David, Curtis, Wayne, grandchildren Ashley, Emily, Savannah, Shaylee, Garret, Chrystyna, Gordon, Harley, Angelica, Kayla, Danae, Lacy, Corbin, Erica, Kelsey, Connor, Lincoln, one sister Gayle (Ed) Ewasiuk, two brothers Randy Anderson, Bruce (Betty) Campbell and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doug was predeceased by his son Gary, his parents Dorothy and Gordon.

A Funeral Service for Doug will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at the Homestead Coulee Community Centre, 55 kilometres East of Drumheller, Intersection of Highway 570 and 862.  Cathy Watts will officiate; the interment will be private at the Lone Butte Cemetery.  If friend so desire memorial donation may made to the charity of one’s choice.  Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Homes are in care of the arrangements.
