Brenda Anne Harper (nee DeMott) passed away with her family at her side on March 4,2026 at the age of 71 in Drumheller, Alberta.
Brenda was born in Hanna, Alberta on July 12,1954. She was the youngest daughter to Frank and Freda DeMott. She was raised on the family farm northwest of Delia where she grew up tormenting her older siblings, sister Dianne and brothers Fred and Jerry. She had a love for her horses and ponies which was a passion her entire life. Also, her beloved 4 legged furry sidekicks which she was rarely seen without. She attended S.A.I.T. in Calgary, where she completed her nursing training and returned to work in Drumheller for 48 years before retiring in 2020.
In 1975 Brenda married Andrew Harper. Together they welcomed and raised daughter Michelle in 1977 and son Jordan in 1979. Many of the early years were spent chasing them around to swim meets in the province and later years motocross throughout western Canada and the northern USA. She was the biggest cheerleader, a score keeper, personal nurse, caterer and anything else that needed done.
Brenda was known for her beautiful yard and love of flowers, especially her lilies (winning the most beautiful yard in the valley on a few occasions), her amazing cooking skills (mom made the best pedahe and many will never forget her famous popcorn balls), and her huge heart which she opened to many. Brenda was full of strength, courage, inspiration and compassion to so many including her coworkers and patients over the years.
After retiring Brenda and Andrew enjoyed their sailing adventures where they explored the Caribbean, Saint Marten, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, British Virgin Islands, Tahiti and many others.
Brenda is lovingly remembered by her beloved husband Andrew, daughter Michelle (Jordan), son Jordan (Melissa), grandchildren Dylan, Colby, Tate and Alison. She is also survived by her big sister Dianne, brother Fred, sister-in-law Cheryl and numerous nieces, nephews, extended and adopted family.
At Brenda’s request there will be no formal service and a small family gathering will be held at a later date. In Brenda’s memory and lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Drumheller Area Health Foundation specifically to the Cancer Clinic or Palliative Care Room 29 and Garden space, Drumheller Humane Society, or to a charity of one’s choice.
