Bernice Anderson
Bernice passed peacefully with family, sharing stories, memories, and expressions of love May 29, 2026, at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre. She gently closed this final chapter after a life well lived, entering into a well-deserved, restful transition.
Bernice was born July 11, 1941, at Sylvan Lake, Alberta and with her family moved to Nacmine, Alberta. It was here she met John Anderson, they married September 12, 1959. Bernice and John started their life together on the farm at Morrin, Alberta. They retired to an acreage in Red Deer County and then downsized to the town of Blackfalds.
Bernice being a person of remarkable strength and work ethic, spent a lifetime dedicated to farming and working hard to build a beautiful life for their family. She possessed a deep connection to the land, and the simple beauty of nature. She took every opportunity to teach, show and pass on knowledge. Beyond her strength in the fields, she had a vibrant creative soul and loved working with her hands, painting, crafting and gardening. Above all, she passed on her curiosity, resilience, strength and artistic nature on to her family, who will forever cherish this legacy.
Bernice better known as Nana, also shared her knowledge, strength, and generous spirit to many countless family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband John, her children Linda, Diana (Brian), Greg (Lisa) and Cheryl (Justin), 8 grandchildren and their spouses, 14 great grandchildren, extended family, and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Effie Heikkinen, siblings Keith, John, Davey, Don and Joyce.
Bernice (Nana) will be deeply missed and remembered by all who knew her. Her family takes comfort in the many beautiful memories shared and the lasting impact she had on those around her.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at the Lacombe Community Hospital and Care Centre. The care, kindness, and dignity shown to Bernice and her family during her final chapter will never be forgotten. Thank you, will never feel like enough.
