Allan Raymond Dau

It is with deep sadness that the family of Allan Raymond Dau of Drumheller announces his peaceful passing at home on July 5, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy battle with COPD.

Allan was the beloved husband of Jane Dau, devoted father to Nicholas Dau, and stepfather to Jane’s daughters Rhoda and Monica Vaness. He was born in Trochu, Alberta, on March 15, 1942, to Raymond and Margaret Dau, and raised on the family farm just east of Three Hills.

After leaving home, Allan spent many years as a truck driver, working throughout the oil patch and hauling across North America. He later joined the staff at Drumheller Institution, where he worked for nearly fifteen years before retiring in 1998.

Allan had a deep love for his family, his pets, and his livestock, and that love was returned in abundance. Becoming a father to his son, Nicholas, in 1985 was one of the greatest joys of his life, and it was a role he cherished deeply. Marrying the love of his life, Jane, in 1994 brought him a devoted partner with whom he shared thirty-two wonderful years, building a life together rooted in love, hard work, and a shared passion for the farm. This union also brought two daughters, and later, two grandchildren all of whom he loved watching grow up.

He was a familiar face at what he affectionately called "his office"—the store in Rosedale—where he spent countless hours enjoying coffee, sharing stories, and visiting with friends until it closed down. As Allan often said, many business deals were made around those coffee cups.

Fishing and farming were among Allan's greatest passions, but he was especially proud of the farm near the Hoodoos that he purchased in 1976. Over the years, he raised Quarter Horses, feeder calves, a flock of sheep, and many other well-cared-for animals. More than just a place to work, the farm was his pride and joy, it was the place he could share with family, and the place where he could watch his grandchildren grow, and it remained at the heart of his life for 50 years.

Allan will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jane; his son Nick (Ashley); his cherished granddaughter Aurora; his stepdaughters Monica and Rhoda (Jeff); his cherished grandchildren Shawn (Chloe) and Romy (Brylee); his sister Joanne (Murray); his sisters-in-law Pat and Susan; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Margaret Dau, and by his brothers, Bob (Susan) and Bill (Pat).

In keeping with Allan's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. A private family gathering was held to celebrate his life.

The family respectfully declines flowers. Memorial donations may be made in Allan's memory to the Drumheller Fish and Game Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Heathcote, Dr. Tlhape, the Drumheller  Home Care Nurses, the Central Zone Palliative Care Team for their compassionate care and support  during Allan’s illness, and Courtney-Winters Funeral Home for their assistance with his final arrangements.
