Muriel Peterson Obituary

Muriel Peterson of Drumheller beloved wife of the late Lawrence (Larry) Peterson went to her heavenly home on November 1, 2018 at the age of 93 years.

Muriel was born June 23, 1925 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to John and Cecilia Guenther.  Along with her parents and younger sister, they moved in 1930 to Canada where two brothers were added to the family.

Muriel married her high school sweetheart, Lawrence in Bow Island on September 9, 1946.  They had two daughters, Valerie and Shelly, while living in Milk River, Alberta and moved to Drumheller in 1969.  Her faith and family were most important in Muriel’s life, and she was blessed with two wonderful grandchildren, and later 4 great grandchildren.  As well as being a faithful prayer warrior and being involved in her church, Muriel enjoyed sewing, planting flowers around her home, cooking and baking.

Muriel was predeceased by her loving husband Lawrence (Larry) Peterson, her parents John and Cecilia, brother Arlo, sister Audrey, brothers and sisters in law Carl and Joyce Peterson, Stan and Clara Schwartzenberger, and Pauline Peterson, nephew Reg and niece Lorraine.

Muriel leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Valerie Senecal (Jean-Louis), Shelly Hansen (David), grandchildren, Chandelle Hilton (Josh) and Justin Hansen, as well as great grandchildren Gabriel, Jude, Beck and Elliah Hilton, one brother Harlan Guenther (Joy), brother-in-law Paul Peterson, numerous nieces, nephews and a lifetime of friends.

To celebrate Muriel’s life a service will take place on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Drumheller Alliance Church, 670 7th Avenue East with Pastor Brent Rushinka officiating.  Friends and family are invited to remain for refreshments and a time of visiting with the family in the church basement.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Bulelwa Mpisi, the Home Care team, and the staff of the Drumheller Health Centre for their compassionate care of our dearly beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Drumheller Area Health Foundation (Community Cancer Clinic).
