Edna Erma Kranzler
June 11, 1923 ~ February 18, 2019
It is with deep sorrow that we say goodbye to our mom, grandma and great grandma Edna Kranzler.
Edna was born on June 11, 1923 on the family farm just south of Carbon, Alberta along with her twin brother Edmond.
At the age of 4 years Edna contracted the German Measles which caused her to lose her hearing in both ears. Although she could not hear she never complained about her situation and always made the best of everything in life.
On January 28, 1948 Edna married Reinhold (Shorty) Kranzler in the house that she was born in. The marriage was blessed with three children, Sharon Anne, Connie Elaine and Lloyd Alan Kranzler.
Shorty and Edna lived in Carbon and raised their family until failing health forced them to move into the Sunshine Lodge in Drumheller, Alberta in 1989. After the death of Shorty on May 29th, 1992, Edna remained in the Sunshine Lodge until her own failing health caused her to move into the extended care unit at the Drumheller Hospital where she resided until her passing on February 18, 2019.
When Edna and Shorty lived in Carbon her greatest joy was to have her family over for dinners, she loved to cook German foods and desserts not only for her family but for many people in town. In the summer time you would usually find her out in her flower garden for hours pulling weeds and pruning her flowers to perfection. She loved to do needle point creating many beautiful pillow cases and table cloths, until her eye sight started to fade.
Edna was predeceased by her parents John and Christina Nehr, her husband Reinhold (Shorty) Kranzler and all of her siblings over the past few years.
Edna is survived by her three loving children ; Sharon (Terry) Baptiste of Calgary, Alberta, Connie (Allen) Church of Innisfail, Alberta, Lloyd (Sheila) Kranzler of Carbon, Alberta, 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; Nicholas (Daisy) (Zachary and Austin) Baptiste, Lloyd Allen (Heather) (Thea and Rhys) Baptiste, Christopher Baptiste, Tammy Kranzler (Mike Stern), Jeremy (Stacey) (Dezmond and Kole) Kranzler and Jody (Jared) Kranzler as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Edna’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Sunshine Lodge and the Drumheller Extended Health Unit for the great care and tenderness they showed to our beloved mother.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date to celebrate the life of Edna. Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Homes are in care of the funeral arrangements.
